JOHN SKINGLE 1803 - 1856

John Skingle born 3rd Apr 1803 Stansted Mountfitchet. The son of William Skingle and Susannah Warman. John married in Thorley on 12th Feb 1835, to Maria Hawkins born 1811, Willingale Doe, Hertford. Wittnesses were John Hawkins, Edith Skingle and Jane Bertha Butt. In 1841 John and Maria were farming Castle Farm, Thorley. John died and was buried on the 12th Dec 1856, Bishop Stortford. Can find no record of John and Maria having any children. Maria was visiting her older sister Eliza Batt at the time of the 1861 census. 1871 and Maria is now living at 4, Bull Road, Sawbridgeworth. Maria died on the 9th Aug and was buried on the 16th Aug 1884, Bishop Stortford. Maria left effects to the value of 245-12s-6d to her nephew Octavius Batt, his Occ; Auctioneer.


FRANCES SKINGLE 1812 -

Frances Skingle born 8th Mar 1812, Stansted Mountfitchet. The Daughter of William Skingle and Susannah Warman.


EDITH SKINGLE 1814 - 1889

Edith Skingle born 1814, Farnham. The Daughter of William Skingle and Susannah Warman. Edith married Richard Cakebread born 1815. They married in June 1845, Bishop Stortford, A year after William her father had died. They moved into Thrift Farm with her mother Susannah. Edith and Richard had five known children. Edith and Richard were still running Thrift farm in 1861 Occ; Farmer employing five men and three boys, 80 acres. Res; Chatter End, Farnham. Edith and Richard in 1871 were still running a farm of 145 acres in size, called Lower Farm. Res; Hazel End, Farnham. In 1881 they no longer have a farm, Richard is a General Labourer the family are living in Arkesden Cottage,Saffron Walden. Richard died in 1883, Saffron Walden. Edith died in the 4th qtr 1889, Saffron Walden.
